What is a VPS?

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. A VPS is like your own personal computer, that’s based in a UK data centre.

You pay to rent a portion of a high-specced, state-of-the-art data centre server, which you are free to use in the same way as you might use your own PC. The biggest difference is that these computers are always on and plugged-in to a 10 Gigabit per second internet connection, so they’re perfect for hosting websites.

You can manage your VPS from anywhere, using our mobile-friendly control panel.

How is a VPS different to web hosting?

You aren’t restricted to using the server space just for websites, as is the case with our shared web hosting. A common use is for multiplayer gaming: to either host an ‘instance’ of a game world or for team communication within a game. Other examples might be telephone systems, servers for mobile apps and software development.

However, most people use VPSs for web hosting. It’s an inexpensive way to run multiple sites, where the VPS owner has more control over the available resources.

VPS resources and specs

All our VPS have unlimited bandwidth. You choose the dedicated VPS’s specs based on processor cores, RAM and RAID 10 storage.

We have 5 options to choose from, from a great value 1-core, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB storage VPS, to an 8-core, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB storage monster! You have full root access and have the flexibility to upgrade or downgrade at any time.

They have 1 Tbps+ DDoS protection and a network Service Level Agreement of 99.99% - for peace of mind when it comes to uptime.

VPS operating systems and software

Once you’ve chosen your VPS specs, you can then choose what runs on it. It’s entirely up to you what you want to install, but we have over 20 different types of software and OS that can come pre-installed on purchase.

We have 9 different operating systems, ranging from free Linux OS versions, to licenced OS like Windows.

We also have 14 different software packages that can come pre-installed, such as a LAMP stack, WordPress, cPanel, Joomla! and Magento.

If the software you choose requires a licence payment, this will be reflected in the final price you pay for your VPS.

Answering your Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About VPS

Shared hosting is like renting a room in a house, where resources are shared. A VPS is like renting an apartment in a building—you have your own, private resources that are not affected by other users.

VPS is commonly used for hosting high-traffic websites, e-commerce stores, game servers, mail servers, and as a virtual desktop for remote work or automated applications (e.g., Forex trading).

Yes, because a VPS is isolated, another user's security breach will not affect you. However, you are responsible for securing your OS, installing firewalls, and keeping software updated, especially so with unmanaged plans.
